Les Cox President
BVM&S, MRCVS
I qualified from Edinburgh in 1973 and spent two years in mixed, mainly
small, animal practice in Cheshire before moving to Ripon, North Yorkshire in
1976 with my wife, Janet, to take up a position in another mixed practice. I
became a partner in 1978 and have been there ever since. The practice is still
very mixed and has grown from four full time vets in 1976 to 13 full time
equivalents now. My time now is spent almost exclusively with small animals.
I first became interested in acupuncture in 1986 and went on one of the Trixie
Williams week-end courses. This got me started treating patients. I then took
the IVAS certificate course and subsequent exam in 1997. I feel honoured to be
President of the Association having to follow such eminent and capable people
who have held this office before. I hope to continue their excellent work in
keeping the ABVA at the forefront of acupuncture education in this country.
We own a debt of gratitude to Lowri, our outgoing President, and all the other
past Presidents and committee members, without whom the Association would not
function. They are all busy people and give of their time freely without
reward.
We need as an Association to keep spreading the message about the benefits of
Acupuncture in Veterinary Medicine and to ensure that it remains under the
control of Veterinary surgeons. In the present climate engendered by this
government there is a real danger it will pass into paraprofessional territory.
It will be one of my aims to continue lobbying against this.
I hope I and the other hard working members of the committee can encourage you
to partake in the activities of the Association and thereby help to move it
forward.
If you have any concerns or matters which you want to raise I can be contacted at coxshowteam@aol.co.uk
